Timber panels fitted around the base of each post in the same redwood and finish as the rest of the structure. They give the post a wider, more planted appearance at foot level rather than a bare post disappearing into bolt-down feet. The panels are a decorative element but they are built from the same pressure-treated material as the frame.

Every joint is machined at the workshop before the pergola is delivered. Each rail and rafter drops into a cut that is already in the post rather than needing to be aligned and fixed on site without a reference. The build still needs two people and a day, but sections locate rather than need measuring and cutting, so the frame comes together square and stays that way.
